Members-Only Photo Journal: Jack Whitaker's Voyage

A voyage already produces a photo journal: the haul-out, the passage, the reunion, the next coast. Adventure, sailing and travel creators often leave those dumps in disappearing Stories. Jack Whitaker's Yaff page keeps them as a cheap members-only journal of one trip — Florida to Puerto Rico to Bonaire to Panama — next to YouTube, not instead of it.

We first wrote about him in Growing up on camera: Jack Whitaker is building something of his own. He is 23, the new Captain of Zatara, from the family channel Sailing Zatara. This follow-up is the page as it stood on 19 October 2026: eight photo dumps, two public chapters, and two USD memberships. His bio location line updates as he moves, but the journal stays put as a record of one voyage.

From crossing oceans by boat to climbing mountains by foot, I have always found adventure and excitement in the outdoors, braving the unknown and seeing how much I can handle. On my page here you'll find more thoughtful and introspective pieces of content! It's just a blog, really. Enjoy :)

— Jack Whitaker, on his Yaff profile

The voyage as a numbered photo journal

He joined Yaff on 29 March 2026. The same day the first chapter went up. From then to 20 April he published eight photo dumps of one voyage, every few days, written as a running journal — including a “pt. 1 / pt. 2” pair for the sail to Bonaire. Photo dumps, not edited video: the low-effort layer next to a YouTube channel.

  1. The journey begins (public, 29 March 2026) — “We start off from Florida, eventually landing and hauling out in Puerto Rico.”
  2. Sail to Bonaire pt. 1 (members only, 1 April) — “Leaving Puerto Rico for a new adventure.”
  3. Sail to Bonaire pt. 2 (members only, 3 April) — “Touchdown in Bonaire, time to relax.”
  4. Reunion! (members only, 6 April) — “Bonaire Pt. 1 / Family and friends fly out, and it's time for some watersports.”
  5. Bonaire isn't all that... (public, 9 April) — “Kiting in a beautiful spot and crew updates”
  6. Off to the jungles of Panama (members only, 13 April) — “Bonaire ➡️ Panama, 756nm / 4 nights”
  7. Green, green Panama (members only, 15 April) — “After a woozy passage we arrive in the jungles of Colon, Panama.”
  8. These things take work. (members only, 20 April) — “Miss Smith returns, and so does boat maintenance.”

Two free chapters are the open door

The first post and one mid-trip chapter stay public. Anyone can read the Florida start and the Bonaire kiting update. The other six posts — the Bonaire passage, the reunion, the Panama crossing, the arrival, the maintenance day — are members only. The free chapters prove the journal is real; the membership opens the rest.

A cheap tier and a high thank-you tier

Jack runs two active USD memberships, both monthly, both of which include posts, photos and videos:

  • Basic Access — US$2.99/month
  • Big thanks — US$24.99/month

The prices step up; the content types do not split. US$2.99 is the door for people who want the rest of the journal. US$24.99 is for people who want to say a bigger thank you. You do not have to copy the $24.99 top tier — it is one working ladder: a cheap entry plus a high “thank you” for the people who will pay more for the same feed.

Copy this setup

You do not need Jack's voyage to use the same shape. You need a trip, a camera roll, and a page people can find.

1. Stand up a free page

Starter is free with a 5% platform fee. Optional Creator ($19/mo) and Pro ($99/mo) plans drop the Yaff platform fee to 0% and include a 14-day trial. Payouts are scheduled daily to your bank via Stripe. Pick a URL like yaff.io/yourname. Jack is on Starter.

2. Add two tiers: cheap entry, high thank you

A low monthly price so people can open the journal, and a higher “thank you” tier for people who want to support more. Jack's US$2.99 Basic Access / US$24.99 Big thanks ladder is one example. Every tier can include posts, photos and videos.

3. Post the trip as a numbered photo journal

One dump every few days. Number the passages (“pt. 1 / pt. 2”). Keep the first chapter and one mid-trip chapter public. Gate the rest. It is photo dumps, not a second YouTube edit — that is the point.

4. Point the channel at the membership

Share yaff.io/yourname from YouTube, Instagram or a newsletter. Supporters sign in with a passwordless email link.

Start a free page

If you already shoot a sailing season, a van trip or a travel blog, the membership is the place for the photo journal. Start your free Yaff page, add a cheap tier, and post the next dump from the trip.

See the live example on Jack Whitaker's Yaff page. For the earlier spotlight, read Growing up on camera. For sailing and van-life channels, see memberships for sailing and van-life. Compare fees on pricing.

Frequently asked questions

How do I run a photo dump membership?

Post the trip as a numbered photo journal, keep two chapters public, and gate the rest behind a cheap monthly tier. Jack Whitaker's Yaff page does this with eight photo dumps of a Florida-to-Panama voyage and Basic Access at US$2.99/month.

How do sailing blog memberships work on Yaff?

A sailing or travel creator posts photo dumps, videos and written logs to a Yaff page, then sells monthly access. Jack runs two USD tiers — Basic Access at US$2.99 and Big thanks at US$24.99 — both of which include posts, photos and videos.

How can I monetise a travel blog with a photo journal?

Upload the dumps you already take, leave a couple of chapters free so new readers can sample the trip, and charge a low monthly price for the rest. Add a higher thank-you tier if some supporters want to pay more for the same feed.

Is Yaff free for travel creators to start?

Yes. Starter is free with a 5% platform fee. Optional Creator ($19/mo) and Pro ($99/mo) plans drop the Yaff platform fee to 0% and include a 14-day trial. Payouts are scheduled daily via Stripe. You can sell posts, photo dumps, videos and ebooks, run membership tiers, take tips, and talk to supporters in group chats and DMs.
